9to9 Girls: meet Shahar the Consultant Manager

9to9 Girls is a collection of interviews with strong and creative women who have all, in their own rights and on their own terms defined what a successful life is to them.

Meet my friend Shahar! I am so thankful for her sharing her story with us. Born in Israel and raised in sunny California, Shahar is now living in Zurich; where we met few years back through life-long friend Esther. We had known of each other but had never met. Needless to say we immediately hit it off, and went on booking a spontaneous girls trip to Rome-just us two. Later that year I also had the privilege of translating live her Maid of Honor’s at Esther’s wedding. One of the most moving and dear moments. Shahar is as funny as she is smart, as caring as she is sassy and goofy, and is the ultimate you can count on me friend. She has built her career in the corporate world of consultancy and has travelled the world (Business Class- mind you) to meet clients and do volunteering work. She is an inspiration of determination, professionalism and true class. Go get inspired and read her interview!

What is the thing you love most about yourself?

My drive, love for exploring, and learning. This passion has grown with me and allows me to make friends and grow relationships while also learning about myself.

What holds you back in life?

Indecisiveness. I tend to overanalyze some situations, both simple and complex, which can lead to missed opportunities. Sometimes it’s better to just go with the gut instinct.

What advice would you give your 23 year old self?

Everything happens for a reason! Though some situations can be unfavorable, it is not the end of the world, and things will pick up or another door will open.

Enjoy precious moments with loved ones and follow your heart always.

My life is successful because...

I am open to taking risks and embracing opportunities. I moved abroad at a young age and again for work in my 20s. This has enabled me to learn more about myself as an individual. I have gained amazing experiences and friends and continue to learn in all aspects of life.

What is always in your bag from 9 to 9?

Well, it depends on the bag! But the essentials are: iPhone, Chapstick, lipstick, hand-sanitizer, hand-cream, sunglasses, headphone, and wallet.

What did you dream to become growing up?

A criminal detective. I watched way too many criminal mystery shows when I was younger. Unfortunately I hate blood, so that has since changed! I now listen to the investigation podcasts instead (think Serial).

What is women empowerment to you?

To me women empowerment is seeing women succeeding in various avenues of their choice, and continuously reaching new heights. I strongly believe in gender equality, having the choice, and supporting one another.

Name 3 women who have marked your life and why.

My mom. She is strong, supportive, and always speaks the truth, even when it can be difficult to hear. She has shown me that it is possible to have a career, and also step back to be a strong pillar for the family (by choice). She has always been a helpful source who is encouraging while challenging me to push myself to the max.

My friends. We have very different paths, but they have each reached (or working to) their passion through dedication, hard work, and overcoming hurdles. I love that we can share our journeys and inspire one another. Although we may be in different cities, continents, and points of life I know I can count on these women for a good laugh and talk.

My sisters. We have learned to love and care for one another. This has taught me the importance of trust and unconditional friendship.

How do you create your personal chamber?

I love to go running, it is a time when I can be alone, clear my mind, and enjoy the outdoors. The great thing about running is that it ca be done almost anywhere, when I travel for work I usually pack a pair of running shoes and try to use this as a means of exploring a new city/place.

What is your self-care routine?

The best for me is balance. When my house is clean and organized I feel I can function best. With that, I feel better when I am look put together (hair, nails, outfit etc). I love having a good playlist for every mood – be it for running, chilling at home, travelling, or starting the day. Using this as a starting basis I like to balance work and my personal goals with social plans. Seeing friends and family (even on facetime) always bring a smile and some laughter. Finally, I always like to have a trip planned. It’s always great to have something fun to look forward to. It being a weekend getaway, a proper vacation, or just a new hiking destination.

Thank you so much dear friend for taking the time xx
