9to9 Girls: meet Tiril, founder and owner of OSLO RAW
I am so incredibly excited for you to get to know a little more about Tiril. If you live in Oslo, you will know her for sure as the raw food mogul, and will have eaten at her stunning and welcoming cafe OSLO RAW. We don’t like comparing, but if we had to, I’d call her our very own Gwyneth paltrow or Ella Mills. I had the chance to sit down with her over a beautiful velvety frothy matcha latte. We hit-it off immediately. She is as warm and welcoming as I imagined and more - so thoughtful and encouraging and vulnerable and honest and happy. I left feeling more energized and more confident - and that is exactly what she intends to do through her food. This is her gateway into instilling a little more happiness, a little more balance and self-intuition into our lives. She is radiant and breathes joy. There are quite a lot on her to do list - a new book to be released and expansion plans including a brand new cafe location. And yet despite the (healthy) stress that business and being the face of a company entails, she makes a priority to sit down with her feelings, check-in with her intentions and lead others to self- knowledge. Meet Tiril!
Where can we find you on Instagram?
At 9to9, we love side entrepreneurs and their businesses. Tell us a little bit about yours!
OSLO RAW is a business about pleasure and wellness. I want to inspire others to enjoy life to the fullest and celebrate the little things in life, such as cake and sweet treats. I want to remind people that it possible to create your dream business and live a joyful life. The magic is in our hands and we all use it differently, that’s the good part! I wanted to see if we could build a business based on love, creativity and community. I know we are that now, and we continue to grow into a big company, always with the same values.
How did it develop from there?
We focus on being the best team with the best cakes. Our customers buy essentially our story, our vision and our values. We developed fast by staying true to our values and working very focused towards giving the best always. What does it take to make the best cakes? You gotta love making them, love the ingredients and love sharing them. We spend hours and hours in the kitchen creating the most exquisite flavours, all delicately handmade. We are very clear about our products and why we do what we do. With loads of focused energy and direction, we manage to create success every day. Success for me is being in love with what we do and how we do it. I think we do a pretty good job!
Your ambition for the next 6 months?
Opening our next café, publishing my new cookbook, collaborating with many new brands and customers, selling our products to even more places and having even more fun! I am also open to many surprises, as the road often shows an unknown direction. These are usually very beneficial because they make us look at our business and ourselves differently. Ultimately we want to grow, and as long as we live on this planet, challenges will always push us into the uncomfortable. This is where we grow and realize we are so much greater than we knew! I have a clear plan and goal, at the same time I´m open to what comes along.
What is the best career advice you received?
Don’t listen to everybody’s opinions and never give up on your dream. A bit cheesy, but so true! It’s all inside of us, we just need to listen.
And the worst?
You need education to do that. Really … I have none!
We love positivity. So what is the thing you love most about yourself?
My deep commitment to myself and my soul. This is hard to explain, but I have a very deep feeling of who I am and what makes me happy. That is my biggest commitment, and I love that about myself.
What holds you back in life?
Insecurity, fear of not doing enough and stress. I carry some heavy good-girl luggage which can be very draining. Every day I practice to reprogram my mind so I don’t follow that stressful patterns of over-performing and pleasing.
If you could reach out to your 23 year old self - what would you say?
Don’t believe your mind, decide how you want to live your life and stay clam in that knowing. You create it all, unconsciously or not, make sure you create something you love.
Your life mantra in one sentence?
This is a pit stop on your soul’s journey, don’t take it too seriously and remember to have fun.
What is always in your bag from 9am to 9pm?
Red lipstick, car keys, scooter keys, Oslo Raw Chocolate flapjack, water or juice, mac, phone, wallet, golden pens, love letter from my man, business cards and chargers for all my devices!
What is women empowerment to you?
Trusting our amazing energy as women. Rediscovering our potential to love, create and lead.
3 women who have marked your life and why.
Billie Lue Fung. She became a great friend and life coach when I was nineteen. She is an amazing woman with so much power to change and create a unique life. She is way ahead most people I meet.
Anne Karine Refsum, my mum. I don’t know any other woman with more life and enthusiasm. She is the most loving and kindest mother I could dream of.
Kaja Refsum, my sister. She is the kindest sister I could ask for. She shows me how to be vulnerable, loving and real no matter what.
How do you create your personal chamber?
Inside, always, by breathing and relaxing my mind. That is my number one task; to hold myself no matter where I am. I also love to walk, meditate and doing nothing by myself. Doing nothing is my best way of coming home inside.
What's your approach to 'beauty'?
Being yourself and expressing the real deal. When a lady does not compare herself with anyone, she simply is, that’s is so beautiful. When she is total with her body and free in the means of accepting herself, the real beauty shines through. Being vulnerable and open is also one of the most beautiful states of a woman.
